The board consists of volunteer members from the area. Their responsibilities include general operation, development of corporate policy, strategic direction, budgeting and the Investment Fund. There are a total of nine seats on the Board. There is also a minimum of two standing committees reporting to the Board of Directors of the Corporation. The first standing committee is the Investment Committee. The second standing committee is the Community Development Committee. Other committees are struck upon the direction of the Board of Directors to carry out any further duties the Board deems necessary for the corporation to execute its mandate.

Janice Beatty, Chair
Janice Beatty is Vice President, Human Resources and Student Services at Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology. Prior to her work with the College which commenced in 2003, Janice was employed by the Algoma District School Board as Manager of Human Resources. Her education includes studies in mediation, human resources, educational administration and business. Janice has worked in public education for many years, at both local and district levels and has extensive experience in educational management, labour relations and collective bargaining. She also serves on provincial committees in the college sector.
Janice has lived in Sault Ste. Marie for nine years and has participated in local United Way campaigns, Big Bike rides and the CIBC Run for the cure. She has been a Community Development Committee member and Board member since 2006.
Jerry Dolcetti, Vice-Chair
Jerry Dolcetti is Commissioner of Engineering and Planning for the City of Sault Ste. Marie, and is a registered professional planner. He is also president and CEO of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation. The Corporation owns and operates the Sault Ste. Marie Airport, and has a board of directors and a staff of 22.
Jerry has been a member of the Community Development Committee of the CDC and a board director since 1995.
Patty Desjardins, Secretary-Treasurer
Patty Desjardins has been employed at KPMG since 1989, and is currently a senior manager specializing in independent business advisory services.
Since 1992, Patty has been a Chartered Accountant in the province of Ontario, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. As well, Patty has served as treasurer of the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie since 1998.
She received a bachelor of science in accounting cum laude from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, in 1989. Patty has served as a board director of the CDC since July 2003.
John Bain
John Bain retired in 1998 after 30 years as planning director with the City of Sault Ste. Marie. He is a founding member and former chairman of the North Channel Marine Tourism Council. He is currently a member of the Friends of the St. Mary’s River, the Binational Public Advisory Committee and the Ontario Public Advisory Committee for the St. Mary’s River Remedial Action Plan, as well as the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron. He is also a board member of the St. Mary’s River Marine Centre, a member of the Community Development Committee and a board director of the Community Development Corporation since 1995.
Ann Barkley
Ann Barkley has been involved in the Sault Ste. Marie business community for over forty years. Her career began as a private secretary and advanced over the years to her current capacity as a small business owner of Trillium Office Furniture. She is actively involved in the business in all aspects, including the financial responsibilities.
Ann has also volunteered with various service clubs and fundraising organizations in Sault Ste. Marie. She became a member of the CDC Investment Committee in 2002, and a board director in December 2002.
Duane Buchanan
Duane Buchanan was employed for 31 years at Algoma Steel (now Essar Steel) where he served in various management positions in Industrial Engineering and Administrative Management. He then served as Manager of Stores Department with a staff of 125, and finally, as Purchasing Manager prior to his retirement in January 1991. Duane served on the Board of Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation for 12 years, the Community Theatre Centre Management Board and on economic committees of the Alzheimer Society. He served as Chair of the Searchmont Ski Association Board and on the Board of Northern Quality Meats, a local business owned by local farmers.
Duane has lived in Sault Ste. Marie all his life. He has served on two committees of the CDC prior to his appointment to the CDC Board.
Hal McGonigal
Mr. McGonigal retired in 1996 from a professional career in economic and regional development in northern Ontario, Newfoundland and the Maritime provinces. A resident of Prince Township for the past 12 years, his community involvement includes: past president, Kiwanis Club of Sault Ste. Marie, member of the Canadian Institute of Forestry and the Ontario Woodlot Owners Association, member of the Tourism Solution Council, volunteer facilitator for the community development process “Building an Extraordinary Community,” as well as a member of both the Community Development Corporation of Sault Ste. Marie & Area (CDC) since 1999. He is currently acting chair of the Communities Quality Initiative.
Bill Pasiak
Bill Pasiak is a Certified Management Accountant with significant experience in investment review, strategic planning, productivity improvement and labour relations. He has been controller of Beatrice Foods Model Dairy, corporate budget accountant at Algoma Steel and manager of program services & operations at FedNor.
Currently manager, financial systems in the corporate headquarters of Tendercare Michigan, Bill continues to volunteer his time and expertise for a variety of causes from the United Way to his children's school council.
He has been a board director since 2004, and is also a member of the CDC’s Investment Committee.
Terry Rainone
Terry Rainone received his Master of Business Administration degree from Lake Superior State University in May 1992. He is currently a partner of Palmer Paving & Construction Ltd. Active in the community, he has served as president of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, vice-chairman of the Sault Ste. Marie General Hospital, chairman of finance of the Sault Ste. Marie General Hospital and chairman of the Planning Committee of the Sault Ste. Marie General Hospital. He also served as secretary of Sault Ste. Marie Homebuilders’ Association. Mr. Rainone served as executive director of the Community Development Corporation from October 1995 until April 1996. He is currently a member of both the Investment Committee and the Board of Directors of the CDC.
Tracey Forsyth
Tracey Forsyth joined FedNor, the Federal economic development initiative for northern and rural Ontario, in 2001. As a Community Economic Development Office, Tracey works with a variety of community stakeholders in a effort to promote FedNor's key development priorities, which are: community economic development; innovation; information and communications technology; trade and tourism; human capital; and business financing. During her career, Mrs. Forsyth has held many roles in program management, business administration, and communications with a variety of organizations in the private sector as well as in both the federal and municipal governments. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Superior State University.
Judy Montague
Judy Montague has been working with Government in various capacities for 25 years. Her career started with Human Resources Development Canada working in Employment Insurance, as well as Canada Pension and Old Age Security. As government transformed to Service Canada, her career path led her into a management role with the Employment Benefits and Support Measures programs. Judy Montague is currently the Service Delivery Manager with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in the Employment and Training Division responsible for the Service Delivery Network in the Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District. She has been in this role for the past 10 years.
